Visit the New York High Line

If you are planning a visit to NYC or just looking for something different to do with out-of-town guests this summer,  the High Line should definitely be on your list!  The High Line has just finished its expansion, opening phase II from 20th to 30th Street .  There were great stops for food  (Governor's Island please take note)  and at  30th Street the art installation Rainbow City great for kids and adults.  So, some photos for your perusal:

Our itinerary:

  1.  Cab  to Gansevoort and  West 14th Street
  2. Admire  beautiful plantings ,landscaping and views.
  3. Be sure to get a drink at one of  the talking water fountains Yes, it's art.

Just flowers

As we ended our tour we were surprised to see lots of bright stripes and dots and floaty looking things.  These are photos of Rainbow City:

As far as refreshments, go to the Lot.  Located at the uppermost part of the  High Line a temporary plaza has been set up with an outdoor bar, food trucks,  and picnic tables. It was a great and delicious way to end our little tour.... Two "gourmet" trucks await you as does the The Lot on Tap.  It's a pretty cool idea. The big long bar and the beers on tap not to mention the fabulous choice of mexican dishes (see pic of tacos which were great) or the Korean BBQ.  It was hard to choose!!

Bloggy Tip: Tweak your Twinkie Links!!

t i P z   4    U !
This is not the usual kind of thing I post but, as a new-ish blogger I found this great how-to and thought it would be nice to share.

We all put links in our pages but this helpful tip explains how to create a link that will open in a new browser window leaving your original web page underneath.   Imagine that!!  Who knew?  Since we all are so ADD these days and jump from page to page I imagine that a lot of us get somewhere on the web and have no idea how to get back to the original interesting page we started with. Not sure about you but, pushing the back button doesn't always work!

So TADA!!  Here is the link.

By the way this is called HTML programming (my husband just pointed out) something I know absolutely NADA about but definitely worth figuring out. So if you checked out the how-to and you now are back on my page you can see that I didn't lose you to the blogger help page. Now hopefully, you'll take time to check out some of my other posts :0)

That's all for tonight.  Next up a mini tour of the High Line in New York.

Detour to NYC Plant District

Not bad for the iphone camera, right?  This is a view of West 28th Street between 7th Avenue and Broadway on a recent trip to the Plant District.  Whenever I'm in Chelsea I try to go by the Plant District  to  check out the flowers and walk on the  plant-filled sidewalks.

This Alice in Wonderland Cake is Over the Top!

The Alice in Wonderland-themed birthday party seems to be on a lot of people's to-do lists. Of all my posts, the Alice in Wonderland birthday post has been the most popular.  Followed by my Paris post.  Paris I understand, but Alice was pretty surprising... I just found this on www.pinterest.com  and couldn't resist sharing:

Not exactly DIY but fun to look at!! I'm thinking I need to do an Alice Bday Party Resource List... Adding it to my to-do list now!

Stripes are for Sharing!

So Holly Becker of the blog  decor8  has invited her readers to join in her 1st annual STRIPE MANIA blogger round-up.  We have to take a  picture of ourselves wearing something striped in the last two weeks .   As it happens I need to update my blog photo and my daughter had just snapped a pic of me wearing one of my (too many) navy and white striped t shirts with my loden and silver sort of raincoat (actually completely pathetic in the rain but looks good!)  So here it is :

On the C Train in a Long Sleeve J. Crew T and Bensimon Topper Coat
And if you'd like to join in the fun go to Holly's link  to find out the scoop.   You'll end up on  her stripe mania pinterest board.

I just finished throwing my 2nd and last kids birthday party of the year and am thrilled to be done. Now on to some of my own projects ( I hope!!)
