Decoration on a dime (or less...)

I scored big time today!  I've been looking for just the right sized shelves for the bathroom in our new rental... I really wanted something somewhat unique but I had finally succumbed to the idea that I would spend $100 on an Ikea  limhamn shelf

Ikea shelf $99

Don't get me wrong -- I love Ikea but it can be so identifiable which is fine for a few things but I think I've reached the limit.

So I confess: I found this piece on the street this morning!!  OK  I know about the evil bed bug thing but someone in my building was throwing it away so I feel safe...

I couldn't resist looking for it on ebay. It was easy to find even though there is no label on it. People were asking between $70 and $200... so I feel like I won the lottery today.

Here it is in its new home:

The bawthroom is rawther small (as Eloise would say) so it was hard to get it at a good angle.
I can't believe it fits so perfectly.   Hope you like!

More on Montmartre (with kids)

I was just going through photos and came upon these...When we climbed to the top of Montmartre on New Year's Day there was the most beautiful house.

I love the Art Nouveau door and plaque.

Maurice Neumont artist, painter and lithographer lived at 1 Place du Calvaire in the 18th arrondissement.  He died there in 1930.

I'd love to see the interior... someone had a christmas tree up!

An example of Maurice Neumont's work is here.

More to do in Paris next week.

What's to see for J. Crew Spring 2013

Last week, to my disappointment, I missed the Fall 2013 J. Crew fashion show.  Other responsibilities came up so instead we're going to talk this season.  These are photos taken last September at the Fashion Show at Lincoln Center for  Spring 2013....  We're starting to see the beautiful designs in-store now, so check out what you have to look forward to!!

I had to have this J. Crew Liberty print shirt... J. Crew did the coolest thing.   I received a card in the mail offering this shirt as a pre-order...  The link above will get you to Liberty shirts but this particular shirt is not out in stores yet...

Here are more of the looks. I love the mix of oversize and small florals.

These trousers were my favorite but not so sure they'd work on my short self....

A line up of the 007 ( i mean, Jenna ) Girls!!!  Navy and white mixed in with all the beautiful saturated colors...

This dress is gorgeous...

Jenna in a pair of these oversize floral print trousers, not for moi but love them on the tall girls...

Saw these shoes yesterday in the store on Fifth Ave.

This is a  blurry pic but couldn't  resist showing the color combination of camel with pinks, oranges and orange-y red... punctuated by the white shirt. (buttoned at the neck of course!!)

Stop the madness!  I love this skirt with the raffia (?) trim.

On the way out a couple of the kooky people I saw.  Wish I'd taken more photos of them!! The people watching on the way out is as good as the fashion shows.

Love how this dude is working the suede fringe boots, very furry vest and hat ...  and are those raccoon tails or some such thing with turquoise?

And yes- a photo of my J. Crew wedge heels and striped little dress I had handy!!

Montmartre with Kids

For this past trip to Paris en famille it was new year's day and we headed up the hill to Montmartre.   Almost like a Spring Day--the kids saw the performers (this dude below was the best).  We all climbed up and down lots of stairs and they got to see the Artists for which Montmartre is famous.... Could be considered a bit shlocky (sp?) but fun all the same!!

A Detacher Fall 2013 - Fashion Week

Friday was a snowy and blustery night and totally worth trudging through the snow to see the  Fashion show for A Detacher, a beautiful line of clothing designed by Mona Kowalska in New York City.
It was a beautiful show and because there are tons of professional photographers there you should go to this link and see the line in its entirety.

I took a few of my own pics too.
gorgeous sweaters and dickey bibs too

oversize paper-bag waist  trousers with striped cardigan

a bit of the audience

the mullet was everywhere
The models all had versions of mussed mullet cuts and bangs cropped high on the forehead. There were some beautiful pieces.  Loved the black striped poncho top, map prints and denim pieces!  As usual, Mona's beautiful sweaters and dresses were my favorites.

And on the way out some cool audience members...

I love a snow storm and glad that the show went on!!!
